BGP Communities
Informative Communities
Applied to a prefix on ingress from a BGP session (customer, peering, or transit). May be used for routing policy within AS58511. Any given unicast route will be tagged with two communities: class (e.g. transit, peering, etc.) and region of origin (e.g. AU-VIC)
| Community | Definition |
|---|---|
58511:0 | Originated by AS58511 internally |
58511:1 | Learned via customer |
58511:100 | Learned via transit (global or domestic-only) |
58511:200 | Learned via peering (IX; via route-servers or bilateral session) |
58511:300 | Learned via PNI (private network interconnect) |
58511:9001 | Learned in region: AU-VIC (also includes TAS) |
58511:9002 | Learned in region: AU-NSW (also includes ACT) |
58511:9003 | Learned in region: AU-QLD |
58511:9004 | Learned in region: AU-WA |
58511:9005 | Learned in region: US-WEST |
58511:9006 | Learned in region: NZ |
58511:9007 | Learned in region: EU |
58511:9008 | Learned in region: ASIA |
58511:9009 | Learned in sub-region: AU-GIPPS |
58511:9010 | Learned in region: AU-SA (also includes NT) |
58511:10000 | Learned from out-of-region source |
Action communities
Can be set by customers on announcements to AS58511 to influence routing within AS58511, and announcements of customer prefixes to upstreams.
| Community | Definition |
|---|---|
58511:666 | Blackhole - drop all traffic destined toward this prefix; works up to /32 IPv4 or /128 IPv6 host prefix |
58511:380 | Set local preference to 380 on import |
58511:390 | Set local preference to 390 on import |
58511:400 | Set local preference to 400 on import (customer default) |
58511:410 | Set local preference to 410 on import |
58511:420 | Set local preference to 420 on import |
Announcement control
For transit customers, our default is to announce to all peers (internally setting community 58511:10 per below). This means that by default, announcements to all external ASes in all categories in all regions are enabled. Customers may then add any combination of the below to filter selectively who they are announced to.
See Informative Communities section for region codes to substitute in place of xxxx in the below. For example, 9001 is the code for AU-VIC. The "out-of-region" code, 10000, is also supported (e.g. 65001:10000 for "do not export to any transit out-of-region")
| Community | Definition |
|---|---|
58511:10 | Export to all (default; always applied on customer ingress) |
no-export | Do not export to any external AS |
65001:0 | Do not export to transit |
65001:xxxx | Do not export to transit in region XXXX |
65001:10000 | Do not export to transit outside the learned-in region |
65002:0 | Do not export to peering |
65002:xxxx | Do not export to peering in region XXXX |
65002:10000 | Do not export to peering outside the learned-in region |
65003:0 | Do not export to PNIs |
65003:xxxx | Do not export to PNIs in region XXXX |
65003:10000 | Do not export to PNIs outside the learned-in region |
65004:0 | Do not export to customers |
65004:xxxx | Do not export to customers in region XXXX |
65004:10000 | Do not export to customers outside the learned-in region |
65005:0 | Do not export to content caches |
65005:xxxx | Do not export to content caches in region XXXX |
65005:10000 | Do not export to content caches outside the learned-in region |
